About The Position

The International Trade Analyst's substantive focus will involve matters related to “Know Your Customer” (“KYC”) counterparty due diligence. This includes (a) research to identify beneficial ownership, (b) screening of all counterparties against economic sanctions (including, but not limited to those administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and other denied party lists, and (c) broader transactional reviews to identify any other potential red flags related to economic sanctions, anti-money laundering (“AML”), corruption, bribery, or other financial crime risks. A secondary focus will be supporting Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (“DCSA”) facility clearance processes and Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”) filings.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide quality client service for both internal and external contacts, regarding matters of a complex nature. Requires patience, creativity and discretion.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS suite to produce quality written communications such as memos, spreadsheets, slides, and standard work documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a cooperative, enthusiastic and friendly manner to accomplish position functions and participate in team efforts.
  • A bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, International Business, Economics, or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree in another field but with at least one year of the type of work noted in the Experience section.
  • This position requires access to export controlled information and eligible candidates must meet the definition of U.S. Person at § 120.62 of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and Part 772 of the Export Administration Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of experience with a similar KYC role, work related to DCSA facility clearance processes and/or CFIUS filings, or an assistant facility security officer.
  • Expertise with compliance related software applications (e.g., World Check, Visual Compliance, Dow Jones, Moody’s Compliance Catalyst, Dun & Bradstreet Risk Analytics, etc.).
  • At least a secret clearance preferred.
  • Russian and/or Mandarin language skills strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves a primary role in the firm’s internal and external due diligence function.
  • Conducts sanctions screening of clients, counterparties, and transactions using internal and external databases for potential economic sanctions or export-related risks, other “red flags,” and to determine beneficial ownership.
  • Investigates non-obvious false positives and true positive hits and escalates for further review and approval.
  • Conducts foreign investment analyses and assists attorneys with risk assessments.
  • Prepares supporting documentation for facility clearance packages and CFIUS filings, including legal structure charts and standardized corporate forms.
  • Works daily with U.S., EU, and UK trade attorneys to support their client-facing needs.
  • Under the direction of attorneys, interacts regularly with clients, vendors, and government agency employees.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements.
