About The Position

The Karen Sue Smith and Rose DiMartino Internship Program at Bread for the World offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the mission of ending hunger through advocacy. This program provides supervised learning, personal development, and valuable work experience. As the Interfaith Working Group on Foreign Assistance intern for international policy issues, you will support the organization's growing humanitarian aid and stakeholder portfolio. You will assist in preparing for international aspects of upcoming appropriations requests and reauthorization legislation, including the Farm Bill and Emergency Supplemental requests, to advocate for robust humanitarian aid for those experiencing food insecurity globally.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BA or BS degree with some prior office work experience
  • Experience in advocacy with the US Congress
  • Demonstrated interest in US policy making and advocacy or vulnerable populations globally
  • Strong relationship, administrative and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written, oral, and electronic)
  • Be detail-oriented, flexible, organized and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to think critically about complex issues
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite, database software and Internet
  • Willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Schedule weekly congressional meetings by emailing target staff and adding meetings with zoom link to the calendar.
  • Monitor Politico Pro upcoming hearings and votes and add to Bread GR and PRI calendars.
  • Prep leave behind folders to include relevant international policy ask.
  • Attend in-person and virtual meetings.
  • Assist with planning and preparation for Bread mini-Farm bill fly in.
  • Assist with planning and preparation for Bread Advocacy Summit.
  • Scrub GR Team Politico Pro Dashboard.
  • Attend relevant committee hearings, briefings, and receptions providing a written summary.
  • Record meeting minutes for IWGFA monthly meetings and create draft agendas and follow up actions.
  • Assist with planning and prep for IWGFA actions.
  • Prepare end of internship 5-page paper on topic related to effective international humanitarian assistant strategy in Congress to include a slide deck to present.
  • Maintain Bread Code of Ethics and Values inside and outside of the Work place.
  • Engage with Bread staff and work on additional project as requested.
