About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking an Internal Medicine Physician for a locum position at qathet General Hospital in Powell River, British Columbia. This is an opportunity to practice in a beautiful Oceanside city with a vibrant community, serving a population of just over 20,000. The role involves providing 24/7 Internal Medicine and ICU coverage at a 33-bed hospital with a 4-bed ICU. The primary need is for locum support to cover weekend call (Friday/Saturday/Sundays) due to a reduction in the current internist team. Typical call days involve 2-5 consults, including cardiac emergencies, critically ill patients, and stroke care, with support from local GP Anesthesiology and ERP. VCH offers travel and accommodation reimbursement for this position.

Requirements

• Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) - Full
• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) - Mandatory

Responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 Internal Medicine and ICU coverage.
• Cover weekday and weekend call shifts, specifically Friday/Saturday/Sundays.
• Manage consults from the ward and emergency room, including cardiac patients (ACS, STEMI’s, arrhythmias), critically ill patients (sepsis/pressors, intubation), and TIA/strokes (including thrombolysis).
• Provide usual General Internal Medicine (GIM) consults.
• Collaborate with local GP Anesthesiology for airway management and ERP support.
