About The Position

Skilled Wound Care is hiring Internal Medicine Physicians in Birmingham, Alabama, to provide wound care and lead wound care initiatives in skilled nursing facilities and post-acute settings. This no-call role offers part-time or full-time schedules, clinical autonomy, training in wound care procedures, and software intended to reduce administrative time. Physicians follow patients through healing and manage chronic, non-healing, and complex wounds alongside the underlying conditions affecting wound healing.

The position offers weekday schedules without nights or weekends. Part-time work is 2–3 days per week; full-time work is 4–5 days per week. Compensation is described as $250,000–$500,000 annually for full-time work, with uncapped earnings as an independent contractor, per-patient and per-procedure pay, and quarterly performance bonus programs. Top performers may earn more than $500,000.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• Unrestricted or clear medical license in the state of practice, or eligibility to obtain one.
• DEA license, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Candidates must complete pre-employment confidential DiSC testing and relevant skills testing.

• No previous wound care or procedural experience is required; comprehensive wound care training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Perform surgical and sharp debridement and other bedside procedures.
• Evaluate and treat chronic, non-healing, and complex wounds.
• Manage underlying conditions that affect wound healing.
• Use advanced dressings and specialized wound protocols.
• Provide collaborative care in skilled nursing facilities and post-acute settings, following patients through healing.
• Lead wound care initiatives across the area.
