About The Position

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a clinician-educator to practice and teach general internal medicine in a patient-centered medical home. This role will also serve as the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic Medical Director. The physician will provide care for patients at the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic, with opportunities for precepting residents and students. Faculty share responsibilities for night, weekend, and vacation coverage and will participate in decisions regarding practice operation. The clinician-educator will have opportunities for academic promotion based on excellence as a clinician/educator/scholar and are encouraged to collaborate on clinical research projects. Additionally, the physician will serve as the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic Medical Director, providing vision, direction, and support to clinic operations. This includes providing comprehensive care for adult patients, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and long-term management of acute and chronic conditions. The role involves consultation on quality initiatives, collaboration with the Clinic Residency Director for educational integration, participation in interviewing and selecting new faculty, providing new faculty orientation and supervision, and offering consultation for division goals related to productivity, hours, and revenue. The Medical Director will also lead the development of clinic plans for additional funding and may represent GIM Primary Care in various meetings. This role requires attending several routine meetings monthly.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
  • Current State of Colorado Medical License by the employment start date
  • Professional history of leadership
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician (for Senior Instructor rank)
  • Seven (7) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician-educator (for Associate Professor rank)
  • Rank of Associate Professor, or equivalent, already attained at a prior academic institution (for Associate Professor rank)
  • Fourteen (14) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician-educator (for Professor rank)
  • Rank of Professor, or equivalent, already attained at a prior academic institution (for Professor rank)

Nice To Haves

  • Current DEA by employment start date.
  • 0-7 years’ experience as an MD or DO
  • Fellowship experience will be considered under years’ experience
  • Experience as a primary care medical director

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients at the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic.
  • Precept residents and students.
  • Share responsibilities for night, weekend, and vacation coverage.
  • Participate in decisions regarding practice operation.
  • Provide comprehensive, continuous care for adult patients, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and long-term management of acute and chronic conditions, including patient communication and education, and referrals to specialists.
  • Provide consultation to GIM Associate Division Head for Clinical Affairs regarding quality initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Clinic Residency Director to ensure mutually beneficial integration of educational needs and clinic operations.
  • Participate in interviewing and selecting new faculty.
  • Provide clinic-specific new faculty orientation.
  • Provide supervision for faculty in clinic, providing feedback or participating in PIP in collaboration with Department/Division as needed.
  • Provide consultation for division goals for productivity, hours, and revenue.
  • Lead the development of clinic plan for additional funding.
  • Serve as a GIM Primary Care representative to various meetings.
  • Represent their individual clinic, all GIM Primary Care clinics, and/or the collective needs of the Division.
