About The Position

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join its Internal Medicine team serving the Central Maine region. The Internal Medicine Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive, evidence-based primary and specialty medical care to adult patients. The NP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages acute and chronic medical conditions while emphasizing preventive care, patient education, and long-term health management.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current national NP certification, such as ANCC or AANP certification.
  • Active RN and APRN/NP license in the applicable state.
  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification, depending on the practice.
  • Current BLS certification; additional certifications may be required by the employer.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, communication, and critical-thinking skills.

  • Experience in internal medicine, primary care, or adult healthcare preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive medical histories and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions commonly seen in adult medicine.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and other studies.
  • Prescribe medications and monitor treatment effectiveness and potential adverse effects.
  • Provide preventive healthcare, including health screenings, immunizations, and wellness counseling.
  • Manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, and cardiovascular conditions.
  • Educate patients regarding medications, lifestyle modifications, disease management, and preventive health.
  • Coordinate referrals and care with specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.
  • Document patient encounters accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and follow applicable clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards.
