Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Active medical license in the State of Maryland (required)
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine (required)
  • DEA and controlled substance registration (required)
  • Clinical privileges (or eligibility) at a UMMS-affiliated acute care facility
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education and academic excellence
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and a passion for teaching and mentorship

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and precept residents in the outpatient clinic for four (4) half-day sessions per week
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to a diverse patient population in an ambulatory setting
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of medical conditions through comprehensive evaluation, testing, and clinical assessment
  • Prescribe and manage medications, therapies, and treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes
  • Educate patients and families by clearly explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and care plans
  • Perform procedures and interventions within scope of practice to support optimal patient care
  • Ensure thorough and timely documentation to support continuity of care, compliance, and professional billing standards
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across clinical settings to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
  • Serve as a clinical leader and role model, promoting professionalism, compassion, and lifelong learning
  • Mentor, coach, and serve as a trusted advisor to Internal Medicine residents
  • Lead formal and informal resident evaluations and provide meaningful feedback to support growth
  • Oversee and contribute to ambulatory didactic curriculum development and delivery
  • Participate in scholarly activities alongside residents, fostering academic inquiry and research engagement
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and enhancing curriculum goals and program objectives
  • Contribute to resident recruitment through interview and selection processes
  • Serve on the Clinical Competency Committee and participate in Graduate Medical Education initiatives
  • Engage in faculty development activities to continuously strengthen teaching and clinical expertise
  • Participate in hospital committees and institutional GME meetings, supporting program excellence and continuous improvement
