About The Position

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is undergoing a period of growth and transformation, focusing on advancing its mission in high-value care, research, innovation, and medical education. The department is investing in people, processes, and technology to foster collaboration and advance medicine. With over 140 faculty and 46 Advanced Practice Providers, the department seeks passionate faculty to shape the future of healthcare. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is a dynamic and growing program within the Department of Medicine, dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education. The Division comprises over 20 faculty and Advanced Practice Providers covering the full spectrum of gastroenterology and hepatology. Faculty practice across four hospitals, offering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, advanced endoscopic care, and multidisciplinary management of complex liver disease. The Division also runs an ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship Program and plays a significant role in medical student and resident education.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
• Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient gastroenterology care, including management of liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancers, and other digestive disorders.
• Participate in endoscopic procedures, as appropriate to training and experience.
• Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic settings.
• Engage in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including surgery, oncology, radiology, and nutrition—for optimal patient outcomes.
• Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and other academic programs.
