About The Position

This 6-month learning assignment offers a meaningful opportunity to build specialized skills while contributing to Peel’s commitment to a healthy, safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace. As an Internal Investigator, you will support fair, thorough, and timely workplace investigations involving allegations of harassment, discrimination, bullying, retaliation, and other concerns under Peel’s Respect in the Workplace policies. This role is ideal for someone who demonstrates sound judgment, strong communication skills, confidentiality, objectivity, and a commitment to procedural fairness. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience conducting or supporting workplace investigations, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of employment law, human rights legislation, Respect in the Workplace principles, and procedural fairness.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interviewing, active listening, and information-gathering skills.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, factual, and objective reports.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and communicate with individuals at all levels.
  • Demonstrated discretion and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to remain impartial, objective, and respectful in complex or emotionally sensitive situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple files and competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications, such as an HR designation, are considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and conducting investigations into allegations of workplace harassment, discrimination, bullying, retaliation, and Respect in the Workplace policy violations.
  • Developing investigation plans, including scope, timelines, required information, and key parties.
  • Identifying and interviewing complainants, respondents, witnesses, and other individuals with relevant information.
  • Gathering and reviewing documentation such as emails, text messages, performance records, notes, and other relevant materials.
  • Analyzing evidence to determine facts and support objective conclusions.
  • Maintaining detailed, accurate, and confidential investigation records.
  • Preparing clear, comprehensive, and objective investigation reports, including allegations, evidence, findings of fact, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Supporting parties involved in the investigation process by explaining process steps and responding to questions in a respectful and neutral manner.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and protecting the privacy of all individuals involved.
  • Collaborating with HR, Legal, and other partners as required.
  • Staying current on legislation, best practices, and trends related to workplace investigations, human rights, employment law, and Respect in the Workplace.
  • Contributing to training, tools, and process improvements that support respectful workplace practices.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
