About The Position

Third Way, a national think tank and advocacy organization, is seeking a highly organized and proactive Internal Communications & Operations Intern for its Learning and Organizational Development (LOD) team. This internship is ideal for individuals interested in organizational communications, internal strategy, and workplace culture. The intern will play a key role in streamlining communications across Business Operations teams (HR, IT, Office Operations, and LOD) to ensure staff and leadership are well-informed and supported. The LOD team's impact includes managing Third Way University (professional development), the All-Staff Retreat, the Third Way Buddy Program (onboarding), the Nancy Hale Fellowship Program & Adam Solomon Internship Program, and Special Projects and Strategy Design.

Requirements

  • Current student with an interest in/knowledge of communication strategies, organizational development, and employee engagement.
  • Considerable experience working on a team.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Prepared to talk to people – a lot.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • A Communications, Business, or Human Resources degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Mailchimp and Monday.com is preferred but not required.
  • Interest in internal communications, change management, or workplace strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain scheduled Business Operations communications to staff and leadership.
  • Develop a communications strategy to effectively report organizational updates.
  • Streamline Business Operations' communications to staff.
  • Edit and upload email copy to Mailchimp.
  • Post updates on Microsoft Teams.
  • Connect with staff to understand development support needs.
  • Attend regular LOD team meetings.
  • Join Business Operations all-team meetings.
  • Participate in intern cohort programming and events.
  • Attend and support Third Way all-staff offerings (Lunch & Learns, TWU Courses, All-Staff Meetings).
  • Conduct an Internal Comms Audit & Assessment: Review current communication methods, collect staff feedback, and identify gaps.
  • Research modern tools and platforms for email communication and event management.
  • Draft an Internal Communications Style Guide for Business Operations communications.
  • Contribute to the LOD/BizOps Communications Protocol Overhaul (Phase 3 - Implementation, Phase 4 - Training and Documentation, Phase 5 - Evaluation and Adjustment).
  • Give an end-of-term presentation about your work.
