Internal Acceleration, ASIC

Etched•San Jose, CA
•$150,000 - $400,000•Onsite

About The Position

Etched’s Internal Acceleration team builds agents to accelerate the production of frontier tokens. In this role, you will work directly with the founders and embed with teams across kernels, ASIC, hardware, production, and special projects to develop agentic harnesses and operating systems that transform how hardware is built in an AI-native environment. The work will vary widely, and success is measured by how much faster Etched moves rather than by lines of code written. This role is intended for engineers who thrive on ambiguity, have product sense, and want to own problems end to end. The problems are time-sensitive and business-critical, and the role is not a 9-to-5 position. Etched is a fully in-person team in San Jose (Santana Row). Technical staff are expected to contribute to both engineering and research and work across disciplines as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 1–5+ years of experience building and shipping software end to end; experience at a fast-moving startup is ideal.
  • Strong full-stack skills, with emphasis on delivering working products.
  • Experience building LLM agents or AI tooling that real users depend on, including context engineering, tool integration, evaluations, and failure analysis.
  • Ability to use AI to ramp up quickly in unfamiliar domains; agentic coding tools and frontier models should be part of how you work.
  • Product sense, design taste, and extreme attention to detail.
  • Strong agency and ability to identify the real problem, not just the stated one.
  • Comfort with a time-sensitive, business-critical role that is not a 9-to-5 position.
  • Ability to work fully in person in San Jose (Santana Row).

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to chip development, kernels, hardware, or manufacturing.
  • Infrastructure, data engineering, or DevOps experience.
  • Experience with fine-tuning, RAG over proprietary technical data, or multi-agent orchestration.
  • Startup experience, especially through hypergrowth.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with kernels, ASIC, hardware, and production teams to identify high-leverage bottlenecks and own solutions from initial idea through to tools engineers rely on every day.
  • Build and deploy LLM agents integrated into engineering workflows through tool-calling and MCP.
  • Create full-stack internal products from zero to one, including interfaces, data pipelines, and infrastructure.
  • Design evaluations and track adoption to determine which tools are effective and which should be discontinued.
  • Work directly with the founders on special projects, surface problems across the company, and do what is needed to meet critical milestones.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage.
  • $500 per month credit for waiving medical benefits.
  • Housing subsidy of $2,500 per month for employees living within walking distance of the office.
  • Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row).
  • Wellness benefits covering fitness, mental health, and more.
  • Daily lunch and dinner in the office.
  • Unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification.
  • Significant equity.
