About The Position

Mississippi State University’s Oncology Internship is a 12-month clinical program designed to provide advanced clinical training in companion animal oncology and prepare the individual to be highly qualified and competitive for advancement into an ACVIM approved oncology residency or entrance into a high-level private practice environment. Salary Grade : UC Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. Requirements

  • Applicants must be eligible for employment in the U.S. at the time they apply for a position at MSU-CVM. Mississippi State University employs only citizens of the US, Canada, and Mexico, nationals of the US, and aliens authorized to work in the US by the time of commencement of the position.
  • Applicants must be a graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary school (see http://www.avma.org/education/cvea/colleges_accredited/allcolleges.asp) and have passed the NAVLE licensure examination, or a graduate that has completed the entire ECFVG qualification process (see http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/default.asp) by the time of the commencement of this position.
  • Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
  • Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Responsibilities

  • The intern will work under the supervision of senior clinicians and will be responsible for daily services of the clinic, with a high proportion of predominantly referral-level primary case care responsibilities.
  • The intern will be responsible for some, but not all, after hours or emergency duties.
  • The intern will be expected to present at least one formal 30 minute college-wide seminar each year to the faculty, staff, and veterinary students related to oncology.
  • Other less formal presentations, such as topic rounds, are required throughout the year.
  • Additional regular activities include weekly journal clubs.
  • Opportunities for participation in special projects, classes, and laboratories are also available.
  • Internal funding and elective time for small clinical research projects is available.
