About The Position

GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an Engineering Intern to work out of our Homestead, Cranberry, or Southpointe, PA office. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's global environment. This is a temporary full-time position at 40 hours a week and a 3-month duration. Additional schedules will be considered. The successful candidate must be eligible to work out of one of the GAI offices listed. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment.  As a GAI Student Engineering Intern, this position is responsible for assisting a team of engineers and project managers with Civil and Environmental designs and permitting. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical, communication, and computer skills.

Requirements

  • This is an entry-level position with no experience required.
  • The successful candidate should be enrolled in an electrical engineering program at a Junior or Senior level.
  • Enrolled in a program to receive a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, preferably  civil engineering is required.
  • Must have good skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.
  • Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.)
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages. Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with drafting programs, particularly AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn new programs and skills in Power Delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in water/wastewater process and pipeline design projects for industrial and municipal clients.
  • Assist in Civil Engineering design and calculations for water, wastewater, and stormwater components of Land Development projects.
  • Participates in technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications, and technical plans.
  • Filling out and completing permit applications for processing.
  • Field work may include water sampling, site inspection, and construction administration support including completing field observation reports.
  • Prepare plans utilizing AutoDesk Civil 3D.
