About The Position

As a U.S. Tax Intern, you will support the planning and execution of cross-border tax matters and contribute to a variety of client mandates, both ongoing and transactional. Working closely with senior members of the U.S. Tax Team, you will assist companies operating in the U.S. and U.S. citizens living in Canada.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Math, Business, or a related field, with experience in data management and quantitative analytics
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, Goal Seek, PivotTables), Word, and PowerPoint
  • Solid accounting and mathematics knowledge; the role is numbers focused and requires strong math skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and ability to develop creative solutions (include examples in your CV or cover letter)
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the internship

Nice To Haves

  • CPA track preferred
  • Working knowledge of GoSystems, ProSystems or similar software is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and prior filed tax returns
  • Conduct technical tax research on corporate and personal tax items, tax treaties, case law, state tax and sales and use tax
  • Prepare various tax filings such as Form 1120, Form 1065, Form 140 NR and Form 1040 along with other various foreign reporting/disclosures
  • Draft deliverables for clients, including technical memos and estate tax plans for U.S. or Canadian individuals with exposure to both Canadian and U.S. tax
