About The Position

This internship focuses on applying STEM degrees to space applications, transforming science fiction into reality for national security in space. The role involves learning about and utilizing the latest technologies and algorithms. Interns will join a hardworking team at APL, contributing to the design, development, and assessment of space technologies and algorithms. The group maintains proficiencies in photonics, signatures, advanced technology applications, orbital engagements, space control concept assessment, autonomous operations, and multi-disciplinary optimization. The internship offers opportunities to develop and test space components for R&D efforts, work with models and simulations of space systems, sensors, and constellations, and explore algorithms to enhance space system performance. The team has diverse backgrounds and utilizes programming and modeling skills, with a photonics lab for sensor hardware development.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computational Sciences or a related technical field.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have an interest in technologies or algorithms related to space control applications.
  • Have development experience with C/C++, Matlab, Python or equivalent programming languages.
  • Have the ability to complete tasking requirements without direct oversight.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Are able to obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
