2027 Internship - Sensor Systems/Data Analytics

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics LaboratoryLaurel, MD
Onsite

About The Position

This internship focuses on applying knowledge and skills to solve complex defense-related problems, specifically contributing to the evolution of signal processing and data fusion algorithms to enhance national security. The intern will spend the summer working with a team of engineers, physicists, mathematicians, and computer scientists on the development of advanced sensor systems. The role involves the application and analysis of novel signal and data processing algorithms for threat detection, tracking, and characterization; development of algorithms for fusing active, passive, multi-band, and multi-static sensor data; optimization of multi-sensor architectures for targeting information; application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and statistical analysis to sensor data; and the analysis and development of sensor signal processing, tracking, and data fusion algorithms using complex simulations in a high-performance computing environment.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Math, Math or another related technical field
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from varied subject areas and experience levels
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance
  • U.S. citizenship
