About The Position

This internship position involves supporting engineering and purchasing for procurement and selection of parts and materials. The intern will prepare component drawings and specifications for highly complex products, prepare nonstandard part and material submittals, and interface with internal and external labs to interpret test results and define testing to ensure parts are compliant with requirements. The role requires effective communication with program engineers, management, and customers on technical issues and work status, and presenting analysis results regularly. The intern will also act as a technical consultant in areas of expertise and perform technical reviews of material/component quality documentation. Work is closely supervised, and the intern will follow established procedures and detailed instructions from senior staff.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree, or a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical degree at an accredited university.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare component drawings and specifications for highly complex products that may be electro-optical, opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical in nature.
  • Provide support to engineering and purchasing for procurement and selection of parts and materials.
  • Prepare nonstandard part and material submittals.
  • Interface and work with inside and outside labs to interpret test results and define testing for the purposes of assuring that parts are compliant to requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with program engineers, management, and customers on technical issues and status of work.
  • Present results of analysis to program engineers and customers on a regular basis to ensure proper interpretation and understanding.
  • Act as a technical consultant in areas of expertise and to perform technical reviews of material/component quality documentation including supplier data, test results, etc. to assure conformance to stated requirements.
  • Follow established procedures and specific, detailed instructions and/or guidance from more senior functional staff.
