About The Position

This internship position involves various responsibilities within a pharmacy setting, requiring collaboration, organization, problem-solving, and effective communication. The intern will gain knowledge of medication order interpretation and evaluation, dispensing medications, drug distribution, and drug therapy monitoring. Responsibilities also include compounding drugs, labeling medications according to state and federal requirements, participating in drug selection and research, providing drug administration information, and offering patient counseling when necessary. A key aspect of this role is performing pharmacy operations under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The intern must demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and the ability to assess and interpret patient-specific data, considering age-related needs.

Responsibilities

  • Interpretation & evaluation of medication orders
  • Dispensing of medications pursuant to orders in the patient's best interests
  • Drug distribution
  • Drug therapy monitoring functions
  • Compounding drugs pursuant to or in anticipation of a prescription order
  • Labeling of drugs and devices in compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Participating in drug selection
  • Providing information related to drug administration
  • Participation in drug related research and drug management
  • Providing patient counseling when necessary to provide pharmaceutical care
  • Offering or performing of acts, services, operations or transactions necessary in the conduct, operation, management and control of a pharmacy only in the presence and under the immediate personal supervision of a pharmacist
