About The Position

NiSource is currently seeking a Summer Operational Excellence Intern. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. This position will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry. This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Columbus, OH. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university with a major in business, accounting or engineering discipline.
  • Major in GIS, Engineering, Accounting, Operations Management, Business Management or related discipline.
  • Required GPA 3.0 and above.
  • Experience working independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Excellent analytical abilities, including process analysis and development, problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Demonstrated problem analysis and solving

  • Candidates with backgrounds in GIS application use or support, and GIS editing are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the operations work plan in support of Power Delivery.
  • Assist in data collection and reports to monitor programs, work plans, operating budgets, and forecasts in support of Power Delivery.
  • Support the Environmental Department in either Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN to research and gather environmental files in the public domain and add them to our Geographic Information System (GIS) for our service territory.
  • Assist the Transformation Office (TO) Consultants and Governance Lead positions through multiple activities.
