About The Position

As an Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) intern, you will work alongside engineers and scientists on hardware development, payload integration & operations, laboratory & test operations, modeling & simulation, space environments, scientific research and propulsion systems for programs like Human Landing Systems, Space Launch Systems and the International Space Station! The intern shall support the MSFC Space Systems Department in technical activities supporting the development of space systems design, performing mechanical design for both flight and non-flight hardware. This work is in support of existing programs at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Job duties include development of Creo CAD models and fabrication drawings for NASA’s Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) in support of the International Space Station (ISS) and future exploration vehicles. Candidate will assist with working schedules to meet all conceptual, testing, and flight hardware delivery dates. Project role will require working as part of an integrated product team with other contractors as well as NASA Civil Servants from various organizations and disciplines. Expectations included in the ASED Internship: You are expected to have a valid driver's license, have access to an automobile, and be able to drive yourself to work locations. NOTICE : As of May 7, your state-issued drivers’ license must be a Star License, since NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center is located on the Army’s Redstone Arsenal, a Federal installation. You will be expected to attend MSFC facility scheduled tours, Technical Fellow talks, luncheons, and training sessions in addition to your work. We highly encourage you to participate in activities outside of work with your fellow interns. These activities will be scheduled, with your input, by your social coordinators and will be beneficial in forming a cohesive group and lasting friendships.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BS degree (Minimum of Junior Standing) from an ABET accredited institution in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and current enrollment in an accredited graduate program with an emphasis on design and test.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • Have access to an automobile.
  • Be able to drive yourself to work locations.
  • State-issued driver's license must be a Star License.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Creo/Pro-Engineer 3-D modeling and 2-D drafting.
  • General knowledge and application of Statics and Dynamics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
