About The Position

The Inside Machinist Intern, under direct supervision, will learn to perform shipyard industrial machining projects along with shipyard production machining projects. Relies on direct supervision to plan and accomplish goals. Learn to operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts. Learn to shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials. Learn to read electronic or written blueprints or specifications for machining projects. Follow environmental and safety regulations and act in compliance with US laws. Confer with supervisory representatives to discuss existing or potential machining projects.

Requirements

  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to talk or hear.
  • Must be able to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to ten pounds.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds.
  • Must have specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must use personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear.

  • Ability to sit and climb or balance.
