About The Position

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. The Infrastructure Operations & Automation Intern will support the Infrastructure Engineering team in maintaining the health, stability, and documentation of enterprise infrastructure systems across datacenter and cloud platforms. This role focuses on operational monitoring, ticket triage, and documentation, while providing exposure to server, network, storage, and cloud technologies. Requirements

  • Seniors, and graduate students pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Network engineer student with coding application skills strongly preferred.
  • Interest in infrastructure, cloud platforms, and enterprise IT operations.
  • Basic understanding of operating systems, networking concepts, or cloud fundamentals.
  • Ability to follow structured processes and document work clearly.
  • Experience working with databases and electronic reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate information accurately and effectively to multiple audiences.
  • Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 25 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm CT.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily infrastructure health checks across monitoring platforms and systems, validating uptime, alerts, and overall system status
  • Produce a concise daily operations summary, highlighting system health, risks, and any issues requiring escalation
  • Monitor backup operations and assist with reviewing backup status, identifying failures, and supporting follow-up actions under guidance
  • Assist with triaging infrastructure-related tickets, including categorization, gathering required information, and routing to appropriate teams
  • Draft customer-facing and internal communications related to incidents, maintenance activities, and ticket updates
  • Partner with engineers to create and improve runbooks, knowledge base articles, and operational documentation
  • Identify gaps in documentation and processes; draft new procedures for review and approval
  • Contribute to a defined capstone project, such as operational dashboard improvements, documentation standardization, automation prototypes, or reporting enhancements
