About The Position

This position provides administrative, technical, and operational support to assigned department staff while gaining practical experience in local government operations. The Intern assists with daily functions, projects, research, data entry, customer service, and departmental initiatives. This position is designed to provide professional development, workplace exposure, and skill-building opportunities in public service.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college, university, or technical program.
  • Basic knowledge of office procedures and administrative practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently when appropriate.
  • Basic computer skills, including use of word processing, spreadsheets, email, and database systems.
  • Ability to organize tasks, manage time, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to learn municipal operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in public administration, business, human resources, finance, planning, engineering, information technology, or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists department staff with routine administrative, clerical, and operational tasks.
  • Supports special projects, research assignments, data collection, and program development activities.
  • Performs data entry, filing, document management, and record maintenance.
  • Assists with preparation of reports, presentations, correspondence, and spreadsheets.
  • Responds to basic inquiries from staff, citizens, and external partners via phone, email, or in person.
  • Observes and participates in departmental meetings, training, and field activities as assigned.
  • Assists with organizing events, outreach programs, or community engagement initiatives when applicable.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and records.
  • Operates standard office equipment and software systems.
  • Follows established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Department Director or Supervisor.
