About The Position

Intern Position - up to 1,040 hours or 6-months Salary Range: $17.44 - $21.00 Hourly Job Summary: The City of Greeley Water & Sewer Department is seeking an intern who is interested in working with a team of professionals who are dedicated to enhancing Greeley's leadership role in the Colorado water community. The successful incumbent will be innovative, enjoy challenges, and seek a position with significant responsibility and opportunity for advancement in the Water & Sewer Division. The Instrument & Controls Intern will report to the Instrument and Electrical Lead and plays a vital role in providing service to water and wastewater control systems for 9 reservoirs, 2 filter plants, 1 wastewater plant, 3 finished water reservoirs, and 100s of miles of transmission, distribution, and lift stations serving a community of over 100,000. Work will be performed primarily at various sites around Greeley. This individual will be assisting the I&C technicians in installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of electrical/electronic and pneumatic equipment, instruments, computer system and related controls, as well as maintains and troubleshoots complex technical systems that may be located near/in high voltage and/or potentially hazardous processes and equipment.

Requirements

• MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
• Possess a valid driver’s license with two (2) years of driving experience and a clear driving record (MVR and background check required).
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions in English, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent proficiency, is essential for safety on the job.

Nice To Haves

• Basic knowledge of electrical or automation equipment preferred.
• Currently participating in an apprenticeship program or pursuing studies in electrical/automation or a closely related field at a college level preferred.
• Knowledge of SCADA software, Allen Bradley PLC software.
• Knowledge of National Electric Code, NFPA.
• Ability to use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in developing written communications including Standard Operating Procedures.
• Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.
• Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems.

Responsibilities

• Operates hand tools, power tools, electronic and electrical tools.
• Assist in, repair, and calibrate electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic transmitting and controlling systems.
• Repairs and replaces fuses, breakers, motor starters, motors, and other electrical parts.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
