About The Position

As an Estes Intern within the Corporate Operations, Hub Group, you will be assigned to a team based on your area of concentration. Depending on the team, you will be exposed to various technologies and aspects of our business. Each intern will be paired with a mentor who will guide and oversee progress to ensure a successful experience for both the intern and Estes. This is a Temporary, Summer Internship position located primarily at Estes' Richmond Headquarters, and it will last no longer than 3 months. Estes values experience, and successful incumbents will be encouraged to apply to any Part-time or Full-time opportunities that may be available following the conclusion of the internship period.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or at least 1 year of post-secondary education experience required.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate (verbal, written and listening)
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office programs including Sharepoint
  • Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting
  • Able to work within tight deadlines and efficiently complete assignments while keeping a focus on accuracy and details
  • Creative thinker who has an eye for detail and style
  • Must be able to lift approximately 20 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job
  • Must be able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
  • Must be able to interact well with others
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities
  • Responds well to questions; Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coursework in Data Science, Economics, Logistics or Supply Chain Management is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Effectively interact and communicate with team members and assigned mentor, to ensure understanding of requirements for assigned work; ask clarifying questions as needed to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Understand and follow training instructions and ask for help when needed.
  • Provide support, coordination, and administrative activities related to Hub Operations, Grocery or Short Haul.
  • Provide analytical support for Grocery expansion, Short Haul optimization, and Hub efficiency projects.
  • Support analysis of shipment, revenue, tonnage and service metrics across Hub Operations, Grocery, and Short Haul to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Work cross-functionally with Sales and Operations to evaluate network and fuel performance, including load factor, lane balance, service execution, and fuel efficiency metrics. Translate findings into actionable insights that improve routing decisions, enhance trailer utilization and drive cost efficient, profitable growth.
  • Create clear, concise materials that translate data into actionable insights for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with Sales teams to support growth initiatives by developing customer presentations, analyzing accounts and lane opportunities, and compiling competitive landscape insights. Help identify gaps, trends, and positioning strategies that align freight opportunities with network strengths.
  • Proactively support the team’s needs in executing Hub Operations plans and strategies
  • Present findings and recommendations in a clear, actionable way, helping both Sales and Operations teams make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Regular attendance is required.
