About The Position

The Housing Policy & Research Intern will support research, analysis, and policy development initiatives within the agency. The primary focus of the internship will be researching the feasibility and policy implications of using net wages, or similar alternative income calculations, within the Leased Housing Program. The intern will analyze potential impacts on participating households, agency operations, and program administration. The intern may also assist other departments with related policy analysis, program research, data review, and implementation planning projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in public policy, public administration, economics, political science, urban studies, sociology, data analytics, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong academic research experience may be considered in place of prior professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative analytical skills through coursework, research, or prior internship experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, SQL, or relational databases
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Interest in public policy, housing policy, program evaluation, or social services
  • Experience with policy research, program analysis, or implementation planning is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research related to wage and income calculation methodologies within housing assistance programs
  • Analyze the potential operational, financial, and household impacts of using net wages or alternative income metrics
  • Review relevant HUD guidance, comparable housing authority practices, and policy models
  • Assist with policy development, implementation planning, and program recommendations
  • Compile research findings into written reports, summaries, and presentations
  • Support additional housing and policy research initiatives as needed
