Intern - Electrical Equipment Technician (Locks)
About The Position
This internship opportunity will be located at our Locks TSB in Petersburg, VA. Interns will work alongside experienced Dominion Electrical Equipment personnel providing technical assistance to substation and power station personnel in the installation, maintenance and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment including procurement of materials, spare parts and specific tools. These positions will be introduced to the Electrical Equipment Development Program for view of employment requirements of successfully completing the Development Program. Interns may assist experienced personnel employees including the following activities including Substation equipment (transformer, circuit breaker, regulator, CCVT, etc.) testing; Aerial lift testing; Infrared testing; Transformer/circuit breaker oil sample collection and DGA review; Transformer processing; Battery and charger installation and testing.
Requirements
- Desire "hands on" experience vs. "design" experience.
- Good problem-solving skills while working with mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Math and technical/mechanical aptitude required.
- Must be able to follow instructions and be a team player.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Time management and organization.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity, color vision, hearing, climbing, stooping, standing, and bending.
- Weight restriction of 290 pounds due to equipment limits.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance to substation and power station personnel in the installation, maintenance and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment.
- Assist with procurement of materials, spare parts and specific tools.
- Perform Substation equipment testing (transformer, circuit breaker, regulator, CCVT, etc.).
- Conduct Aerial lift testing.
- Perform Infrared testing.
- Collect transformer/circuit breaker oil samples and review DGA.
- Assist with transformer processing.
- Install and test batteries and chargers.
