About The Position

This internship focuses on improving the documentation, analysis, and enhancement of real-world electrical power systems. The intern will gain hands-on experience in electrical power distribution, system mapping, and modeling. The role involves supporting the mapping, documentation, and modeling of the campus electrical distribution system to ensure reliable operations and long-term infrastructure planning. The intern will work with a team of engineers and scientists who value accuracy, collaboration, and practical engineering solutions, with a focus on maintaining safe, reliable, and resilient electrical systems through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. The team fosters an environment of learning, mentorship, and teamwork, valuing curiosity, attention to detail, and clear communication.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • A passion for electrical power systems, infrastructure, and applying engineering concepts to real-world problems.
  • A minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Valid state-of-residence driver’s license in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • A basic understanding of electrical power systems and distribution concepts.
  • Familiarity with electrical drawings, one line diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with SKM PowerTools.
  • Highly detail-oriented and comfortable working with structured technical data.
  • Effective communicator who enjoys working collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the mapping, documentation, and modeling of the campus electrical distribution system.
  • Assisting in compiling and validating electrical distribution data, including one line diagrams, feeders, substations, and equipment.
  • Supporting the development and refinement of campus electrical system maps and documentation.
  • Assisting with data input, validation, and basic electrical modeling using SKM PowerTools software.
  • Helping identify gaps or inconsistencies in existing electrical records.
  • Coordinating with facilities staff and engineers to verify field conditions.
  • Supporting the preparation of technical summaries and documentation for planning and analysis.
  • Operating APL Vehicles (service vans/trucks) to travel across campus.
