About The Position

The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas is seeking an intern for its Economic Research department. This prestigious, cohort-based internship program offers paid, full-time summer internships for talented individuals. The program provides meaningful work, opportunities for growth, dedicated staff mentors, and exposure to central banking through curated programming. Interns will gain access to senior leaders and industry experts, along with dedicated learning and development opportunities. As part of the Federal Reserve System, interns will also build a national professional network. The internship typically lasts 10-12 weeks, from mid-to-late May to August, and this specific position is located in the Dallas office. The Research department focuses on advancing knowledge and informing monetary policy through research and analysis, producing timely and innovative research, and preparing briefings for the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meetings.

Requirements

  • Completed junior year with coursework in economics, statistics, econometrics, mathematics, and computer science.
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • A copy of your current transcripts is required.
  • Basic knowledge of programming in a package such as STATA, R, Python or Matlab.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of economic variables and their interrelationships.
  • Understanding of econometric techniques that facilitate interpretation and use of data in economic analysis.
  • Past research experience (with a professor or research organization).
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Protected Individuals status (U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who meet eligibility requirements for naturalization) may be required due to access to confidential information.
  • Must undergo an enhanced background check and comply with all applicable information handling rules.

Responsibilities

  • Assist economist(s) in one of Research’s groups (macroeconomics, international, regional, energy, or banking and finance) in their academic research and/or policy analysis.
  • Learn and summarize recent and relevant research and analysis.
  • Locate, obtain, and compile statistical data.
  • Construct files and produce charts and other graphics.
  • Replicate previous research on a relevant topic.
  • Perform statistical and econometric analysis under the direction of economists.
  • Learn and solve theoretical models of the macroeconomy, international trade, or banking.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions for project improvement.
  • Share knowledge and provide advice to research assistants (RAs) and other interns on economic issues and assignments.
