United’s Digital Technology team creates and supports scalable technology solutions using software, data analytics, cybersecurity, cloud platforms, and digital products. Internship opportunities are available at our Chicago and Houston corporate support centers. This posting includes four distinct internship opportunities: Digital Technology, Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity & Digital Risk. During screening, candidates will select one opportunity and will be considered for that selected role. During the summer, you will contribute to meaningful projects in a collaborative environment that values curiosity and different perspectives. Through on-the-job training, leadership development, mentorship, and presentations, you will strengthen your technical, analytical, and professional skills.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and planning skills.
  • Ability to collaborate, solve problems, and communicate findings clearly.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to protecting confidential information.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Successful completion of the interview process.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience building or using AI agents and using AI to develop software safely and reliably.
  • Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Informatics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience building analytical models or using data visualization tools.
  • Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Informatics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience with traditional machine learning, deep learning, or generative AI.
  • Proficiency in SQL or Python.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or MITRE ATT&CK.
  • Experience with AWS or Azure and an understanding of identity and access management concepts or tools.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the capabilities and limitations of generative AI tools and the ability to leverage AI effectively to support research, analysis, content creation, and problem-solving.
  • Applies critical thinking to validate AI-generated outputs while adhering to organizational policies related to responsible AI use, data privacy, and security.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a meaningful project aligned with business or technology priorities.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, business partners, and other interns.
  • Analyze information, solve problems, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Build or support technology solutions, analyses, models, dashboards, reports, or security initiatives based on team placement.
  • Present project findings and recommendations to team members and leaders.
  • Support the design, development, and maintenance of scalable technology solutions that improve employee and customer experiences.
  • Depending on your role placement, you may support the building of operations technology, customer-facing digital channels, or cloud and infrastructure technologies.
  • Use data from multiple sources to evaluate business performance, identify opportunities, and turn findings into practical insights for operational leaders and frontline teams.
  • Support data-driven decisions and process improvements through analysis, reporting, and collaboration.
  • Analyze and mine data, develop reports, and respond to business questions.
  • Help create and validate analytical models and performance metrics that reveal trends, measure results, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Help protect United’s technology, operations, and data.
  • Depending on your team placement, you may work in governance, risk and compliance; identity and access management; cyber engineering; security operations and incident response; threat intelligence; application and product security; cyber resilience; or aircraft cybersecurity.
