About The Position

This internship focuses on supporting the development of scalable digital twin platforms that integrate real-time sensor data, 3D models, and advanced visualization technologies to enhance vessel performance and availability. The intern will work alongside Engineers at Vancouver Shipyards, assisting with data-driven initiatives across R&D, new vessel construction, and in-service support. This role is suited for a detail-oriented, collaborative problem-solver passionate about leveraging data science and emerging technologies for innovation in a dynamic marine environment. The position is fully on-site at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a third or later year of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related degree.
  • Demonstrated utilization of Python and common data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Seaborn, and Matplotlib.
  • Experience in machine learning and data mining including libraries such as Scikit-learn and XGBoost.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and engineering skills through exposure to multiple class projects or co-op terms.
  • Above average analytical skills and ability to learn quickly to gather, analyze, and synthesize data.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products including Excel/Word/PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SQL, and other database management tools.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical abilities and interpersonal skills that support business-oriented solution development.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Innate curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring and developing modern technologies and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Tensorflow or PyTorch.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain data pipelines, collaborating with the data team to build and optimize them for machine learning applications, ensuring efficient and scalable data flow.
  • Design, test, and implement machine learning models using Python and relevant libraries to solve real-world problems and improve decision-making processes.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis, clean and preprocess data, and identify key features to enhance the performance and accuracy of machine learning models.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and visualizations to communicate data-driven insights, model performance, and project outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Assist in creating presentations and maintaining proper documentation for stakeholders, ensuring transparency and clarity in project deliverables, and aligning findings with business objectives.
