About The Position

The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students with hands-on experience in various facets of a non-profit, voluntary health organization. This specific internship is with the Development Team, focusing on fundraising initiatives such as Heart Walk, Go Red for Women, Heart of Houston, and other market campaigns. The intern will gain experience in fundraising, volunteer engagement, prospect research, donor stewardship, corporate partnerships, campaign management, and event support. The role supports the AHA's mission through fundraising, community engagement, and campaign activities. The Association offers resources like Heart U, its corporate university, for professional development and support. Requirements

  • Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
  • Must be comfortable with vendor outreach (phone calls & emails to vendors & donors).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Proficient in multiple social media platforms.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, public relations, nonprofit management or event management are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Development Team with planning and implementation of fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, and volunteer engagement activities, including Go Red for Women, Heart Walk, and Heart of Houston.
  • Conduct prospect research and compile information on potential corporate and community partners.
  • Assist with data entry, report generation, and record maintenance in Salesforce, Tableau, and other fundraising systems.
  • Prepare meeting materials, presentations, and campaign collateral to support fundraising initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support for volunteer committees, including meeting preparation, scheduling, and follow-up.
  • Assist with outreach and communications to volunteers, sponsors, and community partners as directed by development staff.
  • Assist in developing and updating marketing materials for campaigns including save the dates, invitations, volunteer rosters, and other needed collateral to assist in campaign promotion.
  • Support the development of print, TV and social media content.
  • Provide support for special events and campaign activities, including pre-event preparation and post-event follow-up as needed.
