About The Position

This internship position focuses on design engineering, involving engineering calculations, 3D modeling, and analysis of engineering and manufacturing projects. The intern will contribute to product design goals, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability, and will also be involved in design of experiments, manufacturing process development, and part testing and documentation.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience with CAD systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to solve problems.
  • Project management skills.
  • An understanding of Six Sigma tools to make data‐based recommendations and decisions.
  • Ability to communicate, read, and write in English (Bilingual English/Spanish a plus).
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written (technical and non-technical).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and operator instructions.
  • Technological proficiency, including relevant engineering tools.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean / Six Sigma experience (preferred).
  • Project management skills (preferred).
  • Understanding of Six Sigma tools to make data-based recommendations and decisions (preferred).
  • Lean / Six Sigma experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations to determine strengths, loading, and failure modes.
  • Create 3D models and 2D prints utilizing SolidWorks.
  • Execute, with some guidance, the analysis and evaluation of engineering and manufacturing projects to ensure products meet design goals, are cost-effective, and are designed for manufacturability.
  • Perform manufacturing design of experiments (DOE).
  • Assist in manufacturing process development.
  • Supervise the building of parts for testing.
  • Assist in testing parts for product or manufacturing design changes and/or experiments.
  • Document technical data generated for assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, requiring periodic meetings and interactions with other departments.
