About The Position

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. The Information Technology (IT) Internship Program is designed for current college students passionate about IT and interested in the energy industry. This program focuses on skill development, ability enhancement, and knowledge application, complementing traditional classroom learning. IT Interns will work within a team, providing hands-on support and development for various IT functions, including application/software development, networking infrastructure support, and governance and compliance analysis. Interns will help colleagues utilize IT resources effectively. Beyond working on the IT strategy, interns can participate in networking events, company tours, and an Intern Competition. The Security Internship Program targets students interested in Cyber Security, Security Engineering, and GRC, with an interest in the energy industry. This program is crucial for the Security organization's vision of a world-class security program. This posting is for collecting resumes for potential Security internship opportunities, primarily for summer 2027, but may include part-time year-round internships. Applications are collected from September through November 15th, and responses may be delayed. Applicants are encouraged to visit virtual platforms or recruiting events to stand out. Requirements

  • MUST be a current student actively enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or other related field.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.7 or higher is required.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Knowledge of computing devices.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN.
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of Project Management (methodologies, principles, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Business Applications.
  • Knowledge of Analysis.
  • Knowledge of Design.
  • Knowledge of Application Development.
  • Knowledge of Data Analytics.
  • Must not require immigration sponsorship (H-1B, TN, etc.) now or in the future.
  • Not eligible for CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT as the position is not eligible for H-1B lottery program participation or current/future immigration sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience or internship is preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook is ideal.
  • SAP Experience.
  • Microsoft Power Platform experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of File Servers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support and development for information technology across the business.
  • Assist with application/software development.

  • Participate in intern networking events, company tours, and the Intern Competition.
