Intern - Civil Structural (Summer 2027)
About The Position
Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) is an engineering and scientific investigation and failure analysis firm. We are frequently retained by law firms, insurance companies, and manufacturers to answer complex technical questions on projects ranging from small, focused investigations to large-scale, high-profile losses. ESi’s Civil and Structural team evaluates, investigates, and restores structures and sites through detailed inspections, engineering analysis, and research. By identifying causes of damage and failure, the team develops practical solutions that improve safety, performance, and reliability across the built environment.
Requirements
- Completed 3 years of college in Civil engineering or Physics/Science program
- Microsoft Office Suite. In particular: Excel, Word
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must be able to travel for trips of three days in length.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
Nice To Haves
- 3.00 GPA or higher, preferred.
- Any experience performing field investigations, construction, structural inspections, structural analysis, structural design, technical report writing, and preparation is preferred.
- Intermediate skills with CAD and office productivity software.
Responsibilities
- Site visits to perform inspections of existing structures.
- Dimensional documentation of structures and understanding of existing structural systems.
- Condition assessment or damage documentation of damaged or other existing structures.
- Reviewing literature, drawings, reports, or other documentation related to project work.
- Preparing AutoCAD drawings detailing proposed repairs or retrofits to existing structures.
- Using analysis software such as SAP2000 to perform structural analysis.
- Using programs such as MathCAD or Excel to organize and present calculations and data.
- Preparing technical reports to convey the results of analyses or inspections.
- Internships with ESi are expected to be full-time, 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday (Business hours are from 8 am-5 pm).
- If you are participating in our internship program – we require that you take no more than 2 classes during your employment with ESi and are able to work a minimum of 32 hours per week.
