About The Position

The Intern in Behavioral Health supports patient involvement in treatment and education through participation in individual, group, and family counseling activities. This role involves collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure patients receive timely, safe, and resource-appropriate services. The Intern assists with psycho-educational groups, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management, while gaining valuable experience in a clinical behavioral health setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related mental health field.
  • Must be a recent graduate of an accredited Master’s program in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy, no more than 120 days post-graduation.
  • 0-3 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience.
  • Certification in crisis intervention may be required.
  • BLS certification may be required.
  • Knowledge and experience with therapeutic interventions, psycho-educational groups, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Familiarity with state and county legal mandates related to child and adult protective services.
  • Understanding of human development principles across the lifespan.
  • Ability to provide a safe, supportive environment and employ crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Record systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships with community agencies and healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient engagement in treatment and educational activities.
  • Support individual, group, and family counseling sessions under supervision.
  • Communicate and collaborate with healthcare team members to promote coordinated care.
  • Assist in providing resources and education to patients and families.
  • Support psycho-educational groups and implement therapeutic interventions based on multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and support daily activities and programming.
  • Adhere to principles of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Electronic Medical Records and MS Office applications.
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare teams.
