About The Position

Are you curious about how freight actually moves across the country? The Intermodal Operations Support Intern role is a hands-on opportunity to step into the fast-paced world of intermodal and drayage operations. You’ll work closely with our operations team to help coordinate carriers, track shipments, support customers, and keep freight moving smoothly. This internship is ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, comfortable communicating by phone and email, and eager to gain real-world experience in logistics and transportation. You won’t just observe! You’ll actively contribute to daily operations and learn how service execution, issue resolution, and data accuracy come together to drive customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills — phone confidence is a must!!
  • High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Comfortable working with technology, including TMS platforms and customer portals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Excel, Teams)
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset with a willingness to learn and grow

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Transportation, or a related field (preferred)
  • Previous internship, customer service, operations, or office experience is a plus — but not required
  • Strong interest in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations
  • Professional phone and email communication skills
  • Ability to manage tasks, follow processes, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, track, and trace shipments while proactively providing updates to customers and internal teams
  • Confirm pickups and deliveries with carrier partners to ensure smooth execution
  • Identify potential service issues early and escalate them to the appropriate internal teams (such as Account Managers)
  • Track driver detention and communicate promptly to help minimize customer charges
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates within customer shipment portals
  • Help mitigate accessorial charges (such as rail storage) through proactive communication and operational awareness
  • Support management of drop equipment pools, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting
  • Ensure all required documentation (PODs, supporting paperwork, etc.) is properly saved in the TMS
  • Deliver world-class customer service through professional phone and email communication
  • Collaborate with the team to support department goals and overall operational excellence
  • Take on additional tasks as needed to support a high-performing operations team
