About The Position

WSP’s Energy, Resources and Industry (ERI) sector is seeking an Intermediate Structural Designer to support the continued growth of our Industrial and Resources group. Based in Thunder Bay, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to heavy industrial and mining projects, working alongside a close‑knit and collaborative team. Reporting to a Senior Engineer / Team Lead, you will apply your structural drafting expertise from conceptual design through project completion, supporting new construction and rehabilitation projects for industrial, institutional, and government clients across Ontario.

Requirements

  • College diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience in structural drafting and design, ideally within heavy industrial and/or mining environments.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT, with demonstrated 2D and 3D modelling experience.
  • Solid understanding of steel structures and concrete foundations.
  • Experience working within large, multi‑disciplinary EPCM project environments.
  • Knowledge of Ontario and National Building Codes and relevant industry standards.
  • Willingness to perform field work and site visits as required.
  • A collaborative mindset and positive attitude suited to a small, close‑knit team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply structural drafting and modelling expertise from conceptual design through construction completion on industrial and mining projects.
  • Produce high‑quality 3D models and 2D drawings to support planning, permitting, and construction.
  • Develop drawings for steel, concrete, and masonry structures, including foundations and industrial facilities.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver coordinated design solutions.
  • Participate in site visits and field reviews, verifying construction progress and gathering technical information.
  • Support material quantity take‑offs for steel, concrete, excavation, and earthworks.
  • Review structural steel and reinforcing steel shop drawings to ensure design intent is met.
  • Uphold WSP’s health and safety culture, applying Life Saving Rules on all sites.
