Dillon’s Land Development Business Unit is seeking an Intermediate Stormwater Management Engineer to fill a role within our multidisciplinary team of professionals. Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in civil, environmental or water resource engineering or applicable technical degree
  • Professional designation in Ontario
  • 7+ years of experience on land development projects in a consulting environment.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency with water resources tools, such as Visual OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS
  • Strong understanding of municipal and provincial stormwater management design standards.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, organization and interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask on various projects
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative, team environment.

  • Mandatory hands-on design and analysis experience with water resources tools, such as Visual OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and analysis for stormwater management projects including dual drainage analysis, stormwater management facility design, LID design, capacity analysis, and flood line mapping.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional designation in Alberta would be considered an asset
  • Experience with additional software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS and InfoWorks ICM would be considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for delivery of stormwater management design on multi-disciplinary projects for primarily private sector clients in the land development industry.
  • Provide project management and coordination support for stormwater management projects including quotations for proposals, scope of work preparation and input to contract documents.
  • Undertake and lead hydrologic and hydraulic modelling assignments in support of residential, urban and commercial land development projects, including the analysis of surface drainage, storm sewer networks, dual drainage systems, bridges and culverts, erosion and scour protection.
  • Provide technical input for delivery of other stormwater management projects for public sector clients, as well as flood hazard mapping projects for both private and public sector.
  • Undertake and lead hydrologic and hydraulic modelling in support of floodplain mapping and flood hazard assessments.
  • Develop and implement stormwater management strategies to mitigate flooding for environmental protection.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and analysis tasks including model development, calibration and analysis in stormwater modeling software such as Visual OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS and others.
  • Support the Land Development Water Resources group with sanitary sewer and combined sewer systems analysis for dry weather and wet weather flows using InfoWorks ICM software, when required.
  • Analyze, interpret and present results, documenting findings in technical reports.
  • Provide technical input for complex or unique assignments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Fulfill project plans in accordance with established scopes of work, budgets, and schedules to execute high quality projects.
  • Apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Develop new or novel concepts and approaches, and recommend major design changes.
  • Provide technical expertise, calculations, and design input for stormwater management and drainage systems.
  • Coordination with cross-disciplines to identify and incorporate relevant data pertaining to design criteria, hydrologic and hydraulic parameters, system connectivity, discharge points, project constraints, and implementation considerations.
  • Communicate design details to project managers and clients.

  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
