About The Position

As an Intermediate PCB Assembler/Solder Rework Technician at MITRE, you will be a hands-on contributor to the assembly, integration and testing of advanced prototype electronic systems. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to build, rework and troubleshoot digital, analog and RF sub-systems, supporting rapid prototyping and field experimentation for high-impact research and development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of related industry experience in PCB assembly, solder rework and electronic system integration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in fine pitch PCB assembly and rework using hand soldering, hand paste, silkscreen and reflow oven processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to disassemble and rework hardware systems, including SMT and through-hole components.
  • Proficient in cable and wiring harness assembly and mechanical assembly of modules and subsystems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings and Bills of Material (BOMs) autonomously.
  • Experience with kitting and inventory management for PCB assemblies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with hands-on integration, troubleshooting and testing of electronic systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external vendors.
  • Ability to obtain Secret clearance within one year from the date of hire
  • U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in prototype and low-volume production environments.
  • Familiarity with ESD-safe work practices and lab safety protocols.
  • IPC certification(s) (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721).
  • Experience with lab instrumentation for electronic testing and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate prototype electronic systems, including digital, analog and RF sub-systems.
  • Perform fine pitch, surface mount (SMT) component assembly on multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs) using hand soldering, hand paste, silkscreen and reflow oven techniques.
  • Conduct disassembly and rework of hardware systems, including removal and replacement of SMT components.
  • Assemble cables, wiring harnesses and mechanical enclosures to support complete system builds.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and assembly drawings to ensure accurate builds, operating with minimal guidance.
  • Manage electronics parts inventory, perform kitting of PCB assemblies and procure parts from Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Support lab testing, troubleshooting and integration of electronic systems, including hands-on use of test equipment.
  • Participate in field experimentation, test coordination and system deployment activities.
  • Interface with staff and fabrication vendors to coordinate fabrication, assembly and rework activities.
  • Maintain ESD-safe work practices and contribute to lab organization and process improvement.
