This role, reporting to the Manager, Package & Support Engineering, focuses on the design, testing, and ongoing technical and manufacturing support of sealed sources and transport packages for radioisotope shipments. The position involves close collaboration with teams responsible for producing sealed radioactive sources and managing transport packages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to clearly explain complex technical, regulatory, and compliance aspects to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound technical judgments on complex decisions outside standard practices and procedures.
  • Experience providing technical recommendations with limited review from senior staff.
  • Experience providing technical guidance to other engineers and technicians.
  • Experience providing review and feedback on technical items.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Effective team player.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably 3+ years of relevant work experience in mechanical engineering
  • Professional Engineer designation or eligibility for accreditation as a professional engineer.
  • Technical experience and competencies: Design and engineering analysis of mechanical systems and components, Design, prototyping, testing and troubleshooting of mechanical or electromechanical equipment used for manufacturing processes, Design, refinement, implementation and documentation of manufacturing processes
  • Prior experience in nuclear industry, especially in the design, troubleshooting and testing of equipment operating inside hot cells
  • Familiarity with automated welding, associated technologies and equipment
  • Some exposure to radiation resistance of materials and components
  • Understanding of various methods and technologies used for leak testing of critical components and systems

Responsibilities

  • Apply a fully proficient and in-depth knowledge of engineering principles and standards.
  • Lead or participate in various aspects of the design, licensing, and manufacture of sealed sources and transport packages.
  • Coordinate prototype manufacture.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings.
  • Prepare engineering analysis and calculations.
  • Create test specifications, coordinate and execute testing, compile results, and generate reports.
  • Design or modify production processes and equipment.
  • Lead mechanical engineering projects, ensuring they meet defined budgets, schedules, and functionality requirements.
  • Stay current with Nordion manufacturing processes and equipment for sealed sources to support operations and internal customers.
  • Provide task guidance and quality control for other team members' activities.
