About The Position

SMP Engineering is seeking a talented Intermediate Electrical Designer to join their collaborative team in Edmonton. This full-time position offers an immediate start and focuses on designing electrical systems for various building facilities. The role involves working under the supervision of senior staff, applying knowledge of electrical design principles, and preparing documentation using AutoCAD and Revit. The designer will also interface with clients and contractors, conduct site visits, and coordinate with other engineering disciplines. Requirements

  • 1-3 years of related professional experience preferred.
  • Background as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), Technologist-in-Training, or Electrician is a strong asset.
  • Electrical Journeyman certificate within Alberta or an inter-provincial seal is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in commercial, retail, office, residential, and institutional projects.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal electrical and building codes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and share ideas.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in designing electrical systems for various building facilities under the supervision of a Senior Electrical Designer / Electrical Engineer.
  • Apply working knowledge of electrical design and supporting calculations, including single line drawings, feeder sizing, panel and distribution board sizing, motor control schedules, and fault and voltage drop calculations.
  • Design systems for power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), power generation, controls, life safety (e.g., fire alarm, public address, nurse call), voice/data communications, basic security/CCTV systems, and lighting calculations.
  • Check drawings for dimensional and graphic accuracy, design suitability, and adherence to drawing standards.
  • Prepare drawings in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, and sales reps.
  • Prepare project documentation and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct site visits, reviews, and assist with contract administration.
  • Lead an internal team through multiple projects concurrently.
  • Work collaboratively with clients to meet project needs.
