About The Position

TWD is seeking an Intermediate Capital Cost Estimator specializing in Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I), with a preference for candidates based in its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. The role involves estimating electrical and instrumentation scopes for high-speed manufacturing and Food & Beverage facilities. Candidates may have an E&I design or engineering background; TWD is willing to train the right candidate in estimating. The estimator will quantify and price electrical power distribution, automation systems, and field instrumentation, while accounting for HACCP requirements that affect component selection, pricing, and installation in washdown and food-safe environments. The position also involves preparing the E&I section of the Basis of Estimate and sourcing current pricing for specialized food-grade instrumentation. TWD is an engineering, procurement, and construction management consulting company serving industries including oil and gas, renewables, food and beverage, power, and downstream chemical processing. The company states that it is an equal opportunity employer committed to an inclusive environment and can provide accommodations during recruitment.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of estimating experience dedicated to Electrical and Instrumentation scopes in process, manufacturing, or Food & Beverage environments.
  • A degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation Technology, or Journeyman Electrician/Instrumentation certification with equivalent estimating experience.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems designed for food safety, harsh washdown environments, and HACCP compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AACE Recommended Practices; actively working toward AACE certification is an asset.
  • Experience with consulting cost and schedule risk assessments is a plus.
  • An E&I designer or engineer background; the employer will train the right candidate in estimating.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed E&I material take-offs from single-line diagrams, instrument indexes, cable schedules, and loop diagrams for power, control, and network architectures.
  • Account for HACCP requirements in estimates, including washdown-rated enclosures, sanitary sensors for Critical Control Points, equipment standoffs, and hygienic cable routing practices.
  • Estimate process automation costs for Food & Beverage and manufacturing, including machine vision systems, PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and automated packaging controls.
  • Price greenfield underground duct banks and brownfield work, including upgrades to legacy field instruments while avoiding production disruption and maintaining food safety.
  • Estimate labor hours for cable pulling in sanitary stainless steel tray systems, terminations, instrument calibration, and loop testing, accounting for site productivity and gowning and hygiene protocols.
  • Author the E&I section of the Basis of Estimate document.
  • Engage with electrical and automation vendors to obtain current market pricing for specialized food-grade instrumentation.
