About The Position

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Engineer to join their Ontario Bridge Team, with positions available in either Thunder Bay or Sudbury. This role involves preliminary and detailed design of bridges and other civil structures for various clients. The team is described as the best and most vibrant bridge engineering group in Canada, offering an environment with professionals experienced in all facets of bridge engineering. The position reports to the Thunder Bay Bridge Engineering Manager and offers the opportunity to work on significant Canadian bridge projects.

Requirements

  • University degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (licenced with PEO) with 3-7 years demonstrated experience in structural design and bridge engineering in Canada
  • Superior technical understanding, design abilities, and up-to-date knowledge of current bridge technologies
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis software used in civil design and assessment
  • Working knowledge in the planning, preliminary and detail design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry, and culverts.
  • Working knowledge of current Canadian design codes and standards is essential
  • Experience with inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of existing structures
  • Experienced in report and proposal writing
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teams
  • A committed team player with a willingness to help others and collaborate with team members
  • A valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Carry out inspection, preliminary and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other civil structures on assignments of moderate size, scope diversity and/or complexity.
  • Perform and coordinate structural analysis and design.
  • Manage bridge engineering projects, coordinate design teams, and support project management and technical teams across WSP.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, contract documents and reports.
  • Prepare forms of tender, quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates.
  • Provide QA/QC and peer-review services for designs and drawings.
  • Review shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Contribute to proposal development and technical write-ups.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to support staff, contractors, and/or vendors.
  • Undertake bridge inspections, assessments and reports.
  • Demonstrate sound written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical and application skills.
  • Work well under pressure to meet project deadlines.
