Intermediate Appian Developer
About The Position
The Intermediate Appian Developer plans, configures, develops, and maintains Appian applications across classified and unclassified domains. Under the technical direction of the Appian lead developer, the role builds process models, SAIL interfaces, records, reports, and integrations to automate mission workflows and provide leaders with accurate, timely information. The developer supports stakeholders through requirements gathering, customer support, and troubleshooting, and delivers solutions that meet defined requirements and DAF security standards in DoD IL5/IL6 environments.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience planning, developing, and delivering Appian interfaces, processes, data models, and records.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
- Advanced knowledge of Appian process flow design, including Smart Services, gateways, sub-processes, and exception handling.
- Ability to design intuitive, responsive SAIL interfaces.
- Proficiency with Appian Records (Data Fabric), entity relationships, and dashboards.
- Ability to design relational database schemas using SQL, MariaDB, or Oracle and map them to CDTs.
- Strong understanding of JSON and Connected Systems via Web APIs.
- Familiarity with the limitations and governance of developing in DoD IL5/IL6 environments.
- Knowledge of DAF security and compliance standards, including CUI/PII handling and row-level security.

Responsibilities
- Configure, develop, and maintain Appian sites, interfaces, records, components, and other Appian objects based on approved requirements.
- Build and maintain Appian Process Modeler process models, including Smart Services, gateways, sub-processes, and exception handling.
- Develop responsive SAIL interfaces for desktop and mobile users using the Interface Designer.
- Configure Appian Records (Data Fabric) and build grid- and chart-based reports and dashboards.
- Create and update Custom Data Types (CDTs) and supporting database objects in SQL, MariaDB, or Oracle.
- Configure integrations and Connected Systems using Web APIs, and parse JSON outputs.
- Apply row-level security and handle CUI and PII in accordance with DAF security and compliance standards.
- Participate in requirements gathering and translate stakeholder needs into user stories and technical tasks.
- Perform unit testing, support user acceptance testing, and correct defects so deliverables meet 100% of defined requirements with no critical defects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues reported by users, escalating complex issues to the lead developer.
- Document configurations and changes, participate in peer reviews, and follow approved change control for deployments.
