About The Position

The Jerry Falwell Library Student Worker Assistant will support one or more departments within the library. This role requires independent work, good judgment, discretion, and professional conduct. The assistant will interact courteously and politely with library employees and customers, adhere to university policies, and represent the university in an exemplary manner. The Interlibrary Loan Assistant specifically supports the Interlibrary Loan staff by gathering, processing, and distributing library materials. This involves locating and retrieving various library items, scanning articles/book chapters, checking materials in and out using Alma, and packaging materials for shipment. The assistant will also transport library materials between different library locations and deliver them to faculty offices.

Requirements

  • Current student in good academic standing.
  • Able to push book carts weighing up to 250 pounds.
  • Well-developed communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English.
  • Public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems.
  • Required to travel to local and campus locations.
  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop.
  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Support Interlibrary Loan staff with gathering, processing, and distributing library materials.
  • Locate and retrieve books, audiovisual materials, and periodicals from library collections.
  • Scan articles and book chapters for customers.
  • Use Alma to check library materials in and out.
  • Package library materials for shipment to other libraries and distance learners.
  • Transport library materials to and from the Customer Service Center and ASRS.
  • Deliver materials to faculty members’ offices and/or departments.
  • Conduct themselves as a professional by being on time and reliable for scheduled hours, adhering to the student worker dress code, and following instructions.
  • Communicate clearly, including responding to emails in a timely manner, answering the phones, and alerting the supervisor to changes in schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and library administration.
  • Strictly adhere to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
