About The Position

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking experienced Interior Designers to work full time for SJS Executives for possible upcoming operations at a local Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in El Paso, Texas. SJS Executives is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; they specialize in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Real ID is a requirement for this position.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for interior design services supporting both the existing medical center and the Replacement facility, ensuring compliance with VA standards, healthcare design requirements, and operational readiness.
  • Function as the acting Interior Designer for the medical center while collaborating with and mentoring newly hired VA Interior Designers during the transition period.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive interior design program supporting all medical center departments and satellite facilities.
  • Plan, design, and manage multiple concurrent interior design projects from concept through installation for Major Construction, Minor Construction, Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM), Capital Improvement, Clinical Specific Improvements (CSI), and leased facility projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and design expertise to engineers, architects, contractors, facility leadership, and project teams throughout all phases of project development.
  • Develop construction documents, specifications, procurement packages, finish schedules, furniture standards, and installation requirements for interior renovation and construction projects.
  • Coordinate Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) planning, procurement, installation, and lifecycle management for healthcare environments.
  • Support the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) throughout project planning, procurement, construction, activation, and occupancy.
  • Develop and maintain short- and long-range interior improvement plans, including five-year facility interior design strategies and capital planning initiatives.
  • Manage interior design budgets, prioritize projects, and assist with funding allocation for recurring and non-recurring capital improvements.
  • Coordinate construction phasing, departmental relocations, furniture moves, utility shutdowns, and facility activation activities.
  • Participate in project activation planning for administrative, patient care, and highly specialized clinical environments.
  • Evaluate space utilization and develop functional layouts that maximize operational efficiency, patient experience, accessibility, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate paint, flooring, ceiling, lighting, wall covering, casework, window treatment, cubicle curtain, artwork, and finish selections throughout the facility.
  • Specify colors, materials, finishes, furnishings, and interior products that support infection prevention, durability, sustainability, lifecycle performance, and ease of maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain finish schedules, room data sheets, material standards, and design documentation consistent with VA design criteria.
  • Design and coordinate wayfinding and signage programs utilizing VA standards and standardized nomenclature.
  • Ensure interior layouts comply with accessibility requirements, patient safety standards, healthcare workflows, and operational needs.
  • Coordinate Room Data Sheets (RDS), Project Room Contents (PRC), equipment layouts, and VA Space Equipment Planning System (SEPS) documentation.
  • Review contractor submittmits, shop drawings, finish samples, mockups, and material testing documentation for compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in mockups and material evaluations for critical healthcare environments including sterile processing, isolation rooms, pharmacies, medication rooms, and surgical spaces.
  • Develop owner turnover documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training materials, and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) documentation supporting facility readiness.
  • Manage interior design files, drawings, specifications, contracts, project documentation, budgets, vendor information, and material libraries.
  • Maintain relationships with manufacturers, vendors, consultants, and design professionals to support healthcare design initiatives.
  • Participate on multidisciplinary committees supporting facility planning, construction, patient safety, infection prevention, accessibility, and operational improvements.
  • Provide oversight of contractors, vendors, and consultants by coordinating work activities, reviewing quality, monitoring schedules, and ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Communicate project status, design recommendations, and strategic planning initiatives to facility leadership and executive management.
  • Must satisfy all additional federal, VA, and facility-specific credentialing requirements.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
