About The Position

JCJ Architecture is seeking an Interior Designer III to support the development of design and documentation. At this level, the individual will assume responsibility for producing portions of design and documentation and may direct junior staff in those assigned areas. The role involves participating in conceptual design, providing full support through the entire project, and liaising with Project Managers, Architects, and consultants. The Interior Designer III will develop and represent the lead technical viewpoint on projects and coordinate with Director and Department Head on technical solutions and product strategies. Project size differentiates this position from the senior level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, plus eight or more years of related experience.
  • 8+ years’ experience in interior design, design management and design services.
  • 4+ years creating interior design solutions.
  • Advanced Computer and Information Management Skills (AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Available for client issues and communication after hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a licensed professional is preferred but not required.
  • NCIDQ Professional Registration (preferred but not required). Should be planning for exams at this level.

Responsibilities

  • Supports development of design and documentation.
  • Assumes individual responsibility for producing portions of design and documentation.
  • May direct junior staff in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in conceptual design and provides full support through the entire project.
  • Liaises with Project Manager, Architects and consultants.
  • Develops and represents lead technical viewpoint on projects.
  • Coordinates with Director and Department Head on appropriate technical solutions and product strategies.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases.
  • Conveys design information to internal and external consultant team members.
  • Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members.
  • Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead certain meetings, especially those focusing on coordination.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written communication via email and virtual communication software.
  • Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats.
  • Performs self-checking of work and conveys questions or concerns to project team leadership.
  • May perform checking of junior staff level work when requested.
  • Participates in the formulation of work and scheduling strategies and adheres to established project schedules.
  • Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping and assists in promoting this practice to project team.
  • Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
  • Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and virtually.
  • Assumes leadership of selected portions of presentations.
  • Further refines a portfolio in one market sector.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.
  • Demonstrates creativity in design and ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.
  • Understands and embraces the architectural design approach as established by Project Leadership.
  • Demonstrates ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.
  • Implements design direction cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of space planning conventions, including clearances, human scale, ergonomics, functional organization, and three-dimensional implications.
  • Assists with development of design solutions.
  • Selects and presents multiple schemes to internal and client teams.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times, and durability of products and systems.
  • Demonstrates facile computer-aided visualization skills via multiple software applications.
  • Shares knowledge of visualization applications with team members.
  • Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate colors, finishes, and materials.
  • Coordinates selections with team members and Senior Leadership.
  • Incorporates accurate information into drawings.
  • On certain projects, delegates the task of selections to junior staff.
  • Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral.
  • Maintains an up-to-date awareness of fashion, industry, and cultural design trends.
  • Selects and presents multiple FF&E schemes to internal and client teams.
  • Produces building project documentation from concept through construction documents.
  • Obtains and assembles data to complete drawings.
  • Creates detail drawings for items such as architectural millwork, furniture case goods, custom furniture, tile, and stonework.
  • On certain projects, delegates detailing tasks to junior staff.
  • Creates Interior Finish lists and Finish location plans and elevations.
  • Develops awareness and application of industry construction best practices.
  • Remains current with JCJ Technical Bulletins.
  • Produces construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect.
  • Performs site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes.
  • Coordinates with Project Architect.
  • Accurately performs numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, furniture counts, and material quantity take-offs for budgeting purposes.
  • Assembles collected information into budget formats.
  • On certain projects, delegates budgeting tasks to junior staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about Building, ADA, and Life/Fire safety codes and their industry-wide applications and impact on space planning.
  • Understands how to interpret applicable local, federal, and state accessibility, building, and fire codes.
  • Oversees the maintenance of resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries.
  • Develops into a leading technical resource for the firm.
  • Prepares and oversees the development of FF&E specifications and FF&E location plans and budgets.
  • Prepares and analyzes the bid tabulation of FF&E bid documents.
  • Oversees and coordinates Interior Finish lists and tagging of Finish location plans and elevations.
  • Coordinates with JCJ Specifications team.
  • Demonstrates ability to make financial recommendations to clients.
  • Coordinates with 3rd party FF&E procurement companies.
  • Develops strategies for cost management at each phase of the project in collaboration with Senior Leadership.
  • Checks work of Junior staff.
  • Actively participates in value engineering exercises.
  • Answers RFIs and coordinates responses with project team.
  • Reviews shop drawings and submittals using JCJ software.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively file reviewed materials.
  • Coordinates with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team.
  • Attends regular construction phase meetings.
  • Coordinates with JCJ internal CA team and processes.
  • Assumes special projects and duties as assigned or requested.
