About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Plans, designs, prepares interior design construction documents relating to additions, alterations and renovations. Reviews performance of existing materials and provides direction for the interior design standards for finishes and furniture. Performs design efforts under the supervision of the Director Design & Construction. This sequence of job titles is structured to reflect an employee’s increasing technical capabilities in the field of Interior Design. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture is preferred for all job titles, but may be waived in accordance with the job experience requirements.
  • Interior Designer II Bachelor’s Degree 4 yrs interior design Associate’s Degree 8 yrs interior design High School Diploma 12 yrs interior design
  • Eligible to be examined for registration as a Certified Interior Designer (CID) in the State of FL
  • Knowledge of construction methods and equipment installation/inspection.
  • Foundation and current knowledge of design, construction, operations and maintenance fields and governmental regulations and codes, as applicable to employee’s discipline and to an extent that the employee can effectively integrate related construction, operations and maintenance disciplines into a design or interpretation of governmental regulations and codes.
  • Proficient with computer applications (PC- and network-based), including Windows, departmental e-mail, word processing, database, spreadsheet, project management, presentation and CADD packages.
  • High level of ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.
  • Ability to use equipment indicated herein.
  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, on a college graduate level.
  • Ability to plan, research, analyze, coordinate, implement and present project requirements.
  • Ability to generate clear design direction and convey the same to other designers and design professionals.
  • Interacts professionally with JHACH/departmental staff as well as contractor’s, manufacturers, vendors and consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Cost Management: Develops design and construction documents based on construction feasibility, estimated cost, code requirements and design program requirements within allotted manhours and schedule.
  • Problem Complexity: Distinguishes project requirements from client desires.
  • Obtains field measurements, documents site conditions, etc., as required, to develop project scope and design concepts.
  • Considers and analyzes alternative scopes and concepts.
  • The Interior Designer II shall provide insight concerning technical issues to the Director Design & Construction.
  • The Interior Designer II shall perceive client needs and develop solutions with limited information at a conceptual level of design.
  • Autonomy and Responsibility: Provides interior design technical oversight, as requested by the Director Design & Construction.
  • Oversees special individual projects of limited scope at direction of the Director Design & Construction.
  • Collaborates with other designers, planners and/or Project Managers in project scope review and project requirements discussion with clients.
  • Interprets and establishes requirements of work to be done.
  • Coordinates efforts of consultants and/or vendors.
  • Reviews the work of and directs team consultants as required to support team effort.
  • Effectively communicates (written & orally) with supervisor and departmental/JHACH staff.
  • Understands, and assimilates, JHACH and departmental policies, procedures and systems.
  • Recommends and participates in departmental design development (design standards, standard specifications), improvement and implementation for interior finishes, furniture and artwork.
  • Specific to the Interior Designer II and Senior Interior Designer: Leads design effort of project team on increasingly difficult major renovation/reconstruction projects under the direction of the Director Design & Construction.
  • Proposes projects or program changes based upon observation and assessment of existing conditions and situations in the facility.
  • Prepares specifications on products, installation and general workmanship on projects.
  • Coordinates post occupancy evaluations
