About The Position

The University of Arkansas is seeking an Interior Architecture and Design Department Head & Professor for a 12-month position. This role reports to the Dean of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design and supervises faculty within the department. The primary responsibilities include developing and managing the academic program, overseeing the department's curriculum and assessment, fiscal management, and student affairs. The position requires strong leadership and management skills, with an emphasis on mentorship and facilitation to support faculty development and promote diverse viewpoints. Maintaining a collaborative culture, fostering meaningful connections with the profession and contemporary practice, and upholding the quality of the curriculum and teaching are crucial. The Department Head will also support the Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design's strategic plan, contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives, and represent the Department to the University, state and national organizations, and community stakeholders. Regular, reliable attendance and the ability to maintain positive working relationships are essential job duties.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in interior design or closely related field, from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of employment.
  • Candidates currently in academic positions must be full professors at their home institutions before the time of hire into this position or be in declared candidacy and evident readiness for full professor rank.
  • Candidates currently in professional practice who possess an accomplished body of work and merited stature to qualify for the rank of full professor are also eligible and encouraged to apply.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the academic program for the interior architecture and design department.
  • Oversee the department's curriculum and assessment processes.
  • Manage the department's fiscal responsibilities.
  • Handle student affairs within the department.
  • Support and develop faculty through mentorship and facilitation.
  • Promote and blend diverse viewpoints within the faculty.
  • Maintain and contribute to a collaborative culture within the department.
  • Foster meaningful connections to the profession and contemporary practice.
  • Ensure the high quality of the curriculum and teaching.
